چکیده
Objective: To compare the effectiveness of intermittent versus continuous phototherapy among term infants presenting with non-hemolytic moderate hyperbilirubinemia at a tertiary care hospital. Study Design: Single Center, Open Label, Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial. Setting: Department Neonatology, Sir Sadiq Abbasi Hospital, Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Period: January 2022 to December 2022. Material & Methods: A total 38 neonates having maternal age between 18-35 years and gestational time birth above or equal 37 weeks admitted non-haemolytic were included. These (19 in each group) randomized adopting lottery method either group (CPT) (IPT). At enrollment, demographic characteristics like (days), gender, weight (kg), mode delivery, (weeks), (years), serum bilirubin (mg/dl) noted. Total levels recorded after 24 hours phototherapy. Results: In neonates, 20 (52.6%) boys. The mean was calculated be 3.3±1.8 days. Mode delivery cesarean section (63.2%) neonates. baseline 15.5±1.7 mg/dl while comparison not statistically significant different both study groups (p=0.3715). 24-hours 11.3±0.9 CPT 11.0±1.1 difference noted insignificant. (p=0.3637). Conclusion: yielded relatively similar reduction when compared hyperbilirubinemia.

Intermittent versus continuous phototherapy for the treatment of non-hemolytic moderate hyperbilirubinemia in term infants: a randomized controlled trial
Background: Phototherapy is the most effective treatment for neonatal jaundice and intermittent phototherapy is as effective as continuous phototherapy but with fewer complications and more benefits. This study compared the hospital length of stay, duration of phototherapy and the reducing rate of total serum bilirubin after 24 and 36 hours of phototherapy in two groups. Methods: The current d...
